A Heuristic for Local Land Planning: Linking Ecological Function and Policy-in Context to Charlotte, North Carolina
(Master's Thesis)

The functional ability of ecological systems is influenced by human-induced land transformation, related to conventional patterns of growth and development. In the United States, a patchwork of policy exists aimed at addressing such ecological concerns. However, despite best efforts, local governments and planning offices commonly create policy that only peripherally addresses ecological function. The research presented here aims to provide a decision-making heuristic that links ecological function and land-use policy, thereby providing direction to those who wish to integrate the preservation of these systems through policy creation.
